Meats:  I usually keep chicken and salmon on hand (in the freezer)  Occasionally buy ground sirloin (its lean, but tastier than most lean ground beef), pork tenderloin, various types of white fish (whiting, sole, red snapper, orange roughy) SHRIMP–I always keep some pre-cooked shrimp in my freezer–very low cal, great in soups, pasta, or just a ’shrimp cocktail’ by itself

Produce:  I usually allow myself to have anything within reason.  This is where I splurge (instead of fast food and sweets, like I used to.)

Fresh pineapple–(really easy to cut up (follow directions on label) and it stores really well for quite a long time in a plastic container in frig)

Red grapes, Fiji apples, cherries, D’Anjou pears, are some of my favorites.  In summer, of course, canteloupe, honeydew, various berries,

Zucchini (I only like the little ones for eating, but buy a larger one to grate for zucchini bread), butternut squash, asparagus, artichokes, brocolli, cauliflower,

Onion

Brown mushrooms (just recently found out these are so much better than white.  I try to keep enough for one recipe just in case the mood strikes.  Lots of time they go bad, but they aren’t too expensive for just a few.)

Packaged lettuce (I like Spring Mix the best)

THIS IS NOT A COMPLETE LIST, OBVIOUSLY, BUT I WILL TRY TO UPDATE IT AS I THINK OF OTHER STUFF I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT!
